September Featured Artist: Angela Schafer, McPherson

The watercolors of McPherson native Angela Schafer will be featured during September at the Barton County Arts Center, 1401 Main, Great Bend. A reception is planned for Sunday afternoon, September 14th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Arts Center. The public is encouraged to attend.

An elementary art teacher is McPherson, Angie formerly taught art for eleven years at the elementary level in El Dorado, before returning to her hometown. During the summer, she has been active with Butler Community College�s "Kids on Campus" program, teaching drawing workshops for third through ninth grade students. She also conducts workshops for elementary teachers at McPherson College.

A graduate of Kansas State University, Angie has also studied at Adams State College, Alamosa, Colorado, Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas, and Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas.

In Angie�s most recent work, primarily watercolor, she explores both realistic and abstract images of plantforms, natural objects and organic environments. Besides participating in various one-person and group shows throughout the state, she has been accepted into the juried Prairie Art Exhibition at Sterling and at Century Two in Wichita.

Open from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, the Council�s Arts Center is located in the heart of downtown Great Bend at 1401 Main Street. Admission is free and a variety of artworks consigned by regional artists are always on display. This program is presented in part by the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
