During the late 1940's, about 2500 Lustron® Homes were sold and delivered throughout the eastern two-thirds of the United States. Being made of steel, inside and out, and being coated with baked enamel (like an appliance), the homes needed little maintenance and are still in use today.
One of the largest caches of Lustron® Homes in the country is in Great Bend, Kansas.
Architecture is one of the arts and the Lustron® Home is a fine example of residential architecture at its best. Therefore, the Barton County Arts Council is proud to host this web site about Lustron® Homes in Great Bend and elsewhere.
