Welcome by Marty Keenan and George Martin

Carmaletta Williams is an associate professor of English at Johnson County Community College. Her presentation was about black poet, Langston Hughes, from Lawrence, Kansas.

The audience

Dr. Joanne V. Gabbin, a professor at James Madison University gave a presentation about Gwendolyn Brooks, who won the Pulitzer Prize.

Marty Keenan

Dr. Clifford E. Watkins is a professor at North Carolina A & T State University. He has written a biography of Perry G. Lowery.

Lunch break

 

Angela Logan of Teaneck, NJ is producing a documentary on the life of Lorenzo Fuller. Fuller also attended and performed for the audience.

Two films were shown:
  • one about Oscar Micheaux: Midnight Ramble
  • one by Oscar Micheaux: Within Our Gates
Following these movies, there was a discussion led by filmmaker, Kevin Willmott and Marty Keenan, organizer of the event.

Then it was supper at the Barton Arts Center

Following the supper break, Marty introduced Kevin Willmott
and Kevin introduced his latest movie, Bunker Hill.

This was the first screening of Bunker Hill.
After the movie, there was a panel discussion about the new movie.
