Bus & TrainGreat Bend has neither inter-city bus nor train service. Amtrak does have train service to Hutchinson (60 miles southeast) and Dodge City (85 miles southwest), but the train arrives at night and it would be difficult to arrange for car rental at that hour.
Airline service from the eastThe airport code for Great Bend is GBD. US Airways Express provides a couple of flights per day from Kansas City. If US Airways serves your area, you'll do best to get to Kansas City that way, since through fares on the same airline are much cheaper. Upon arrival, you'll notice that Avis no longer has car rental at the airport. Marmie Motors, a downtown auto dealer, has car rentals and a new agency, Priceless Car Rentals, has just opened at a location next door to the Holiday Inn. Both of the larger motels provide airport shuttle service.
Airline service from the westGreat Bend does not have airline service from the west. Several airlines fly to Wichita (code: ICT) which is 120 miles southeast of Great Bend.
