C.S. Michaux

Oscar Micheaux's father, Calvin Swan Micheaux, is buried directly south of Andrew and Lillie Michaux. His grave is still marked with a small metal plate. The temporary marker, placed upon his death in 1932 is riddled with mistakes. It lists his name as "G.S. Michaux," instead of "C.S. Michaux," and the date of death is listed as 1992 instead of 1932. In the 30's Great Bend cemetery workers apparently showed little concern for getting the details right on a temporary marker for a black man. However, current Great Bend Cemetery proprietor Jack Jenkins, a big Micheaux fan, researched the issue and said: "I'm 100% sure that this is the grave of Calvin Swan Micheaux, Oscar's Dad."
