Oscar's uncle, Andrew Jackson Micheaux, homesteaded in the Great Bend area in the 1880's. Andrew Micheaux owned over 700 acres of ground in the Great Bend area, and in his lifetime he was often referred to as "the richest Negro in Kansas." "Uncle Andrew" bought stock in one or more of Oscar's film companies.

Andrew Micheaux's great, great grandson, Austin Wheatley, plays football for the New Orleans Saints.

Tombstone of Lillie and A.J. Michaux

Oscar's Uncle, Andrew Jackson Micheaux, is buried in the Great Bend Cemetery. Uncle Andrew owned over 700 acres of land at one time. His heirs maintained ownership of some of the acreage until 2000, when the last tract was sold to a local farmer.
