Artworks by Great Bend artist Liz Bowman is featured at the Barton County Arts Center, 1401 Main Street, Great Bend, during the month of May. An opening reception will be held Saturday afternoon, May 10, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend and meet the artist. The Arts Center is open weekday afternoons all through the year.
Ms. Bowman is a busy wife, mother of two active young boys, and an art instructor at Great Bend High School. She has been teaching at GBHS since 2004 and enjoys the time she spends with her students. When not teaching or spending time with her family, she enjoys participating in church activities and working on her pottery.
In 2002, Ms. Bowman began working seriously with clay. She says that, at that time, My life was going through a period of growth and change. Not only did I become more serious about creating art, but I also became more serious about my faith. My pottery began to reflect this period of growth through the creation of organic vases. The correlation of the traditional vase represents the practical and conservative side of me that I sill maintain, while the added elements of nature refer to the spirit of new growth and uncertainty of what might be around the corner. Currently, she is working on further development of her artistic voice and preparation for pursuit of a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics.
